Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Director Vincent Lamberti was teaching filmmaking in Melbourne in 2015 when a student \u2014 also a world-leading expert in childhood trauma \u2014 introduced him to Kathryn.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In Kathryn we had an incredibly articulate and powerful character who was willing to go on what was a very difficult journey to make the film with us,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Their mum Carolyn&#8217;s story was not done justice in her husband&#8217;s murder trial \u2013 and yet that was the official record of her story. It didn&#8217;t seem right, we wanted to correct the record. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Producer Lisa Albert said the homicide left a profound and lasting impact on the Lismore community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At the time, it deeply divided the community,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Many held strong views about the case, which involved a respected school teacher and former Miss Lismore, and much of the local reporting at the time reflected the gender attitudes of that era. The use of the provocation defence meant Kathryn&#8217;s father was convicted of manslaughter rather than murder. He served 22 months in prison, after which he returned home to raise his children and work as a local pharmacist.
