A RECORD 2,000 people flocked to the annual Starlight Festival<\/a> last weekend, taking part in palm readings, sound baths and breathwork classes.<\/p>\n

Organiser Rosie Richards said the car park at Bangalow Showgrounds was full for the event, which was held at the neighbouring A&I Hall.<\/p>\n

She said that with more people working from home and spending long hours on computer screens and iPhones, there was growing interest in conscious living practices.<\/p>\n

“It’s a gathering of like-minded people; it’s like you get to meet your soul family every year,” she said.<\/p>\n

The four-day festival featured 45 exhibitors and 120 presenters, including psychic mediums, tarot card readers and yoga practitioners. Attendees also enjoyed vegan food and market stalls selling crystals, jewellery and incense.<\/p>\n

“The new breathwork space was an absolute hit for people rebirthing, cleansing and having a physical experience,” Richards said. “We have never done that before.”<\/p>\n

Richards, whose father founded the event 30 years ago, said the festival provided an opportunity for people to explore interests and ask questions about wellness and spirituality.<\/p>\n

“It’s bloomed into something quite special,” she said. “It’s a beautiful, boutique event.”<\/p>\n

Richards runs the festival with her husband, Oliver Hamalainen. Although now based in Melbourne, where their son attends university, the couple grew up in Mullumbimby.<\/p>\n
