WOMEN today have plenty to be cranky about. They’re tired of cooking and cleaning for everyone, of not being listened to, and of being told they are too fat, too thin, too wrinkly or too old.<\/p>\n

Perimenopausal, menopausal and postmenopausal \u2013 women have had enough.<\/p>\n

It was with this in mind that much-loved local comedian Mandy Nolan<\/a> decided to bring together a group of women for a Cranky Woman’s Comedy Course. It sold out in just three days.<\/p>\n

“I think that tells you there is a definite appetite for women to stir the pot and have some fun!” she said.<\/p>\n

“I was chatting with one lady the other day who showed me her ‘divorce ring’. She got it after 45 years of marriage. It sits, bright and bold on her middle finger. Now that’s a woman you want to hear from. Another woman told me she couldn’t stop being a people pleaser, and she’d had Botox so she couldn’t frown anymore. She’s cranky, but it’s not obvious. She’s likely to combust.”<\/p>\n

Now Nolan, who was also the Greens candidate for Richmond at the federal election, is gathering the 16 graduates to unleash their fury<\/a> in a live show at Coorabell Hall<\/a> later this month.<\/p>\n

“Cranky women have so much to say,” Nolan said. “They’ve survived growing up in a patriarchy. They’ve survived childbirth and motherhood and marriage. They’ve also survived being judged for choosing none of those things!”<\/p>\n

Nolan had retired from comedy in 2025, but said she missed performing.”It’s like giving up smoking,” she said. “I can’t resist a sneaky ciggie!”<\/p>\n

She said the show will appeal to women of all ages, and hopes the show will attract others who enjoy listening to cranky women vent, laugh and share stories that are relevant and reflective of their own life experiences.<\/p>\n

“Younger women need to come see the show, because this is their future,” she said. “The patriarchy is like a fan force oven, that’s the hot flush of menopause, and us old girls, we are cooked! There’s an incredible freedom when you don’t care what people think. It’s also really funny. There are women signed up who you would never think would say the things they are about to say. It’s dangerous!”<\/p>\n

“The show is also a fundraiser for the fabulous Coorabell Hall \u2013 so that Cranky women will always have a safe space to gather,” she said.<\/p>\n

Cranky Woman’s Comedy Club will be held at Coorabell Hall at 7.30pm on Friday, 30 January, with curry available from 5pm.<\/p>\n
