{"id":121475,"date":"2026-01-23T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-22T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/?p=121475"},"modified":"2026-01-21T20:12:02","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T09:12:02","slug":"boaty-boys-to-ride-350km-in-support-of-women-affected-by-domestic-violence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/news\/boaty-boys-to-ride-350km-in-support-of-women-affected-by-domestic-violence\/","title":{"rendered":"Boaty Boys to ride 350km in support of women affected by domestic violence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LENNOX Head fitness and men&#8217;s mental health support group the Boaty Boys will ride 350km to raise funds for women affected by domestic violence.<\/p>\n<p>The three day Ride Against the Wind Challenge, run in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Ballina on Richmond, will be held from March 27 to 29.<\/p>\n<p>Riders will cover 120km on day one from Bonalbo to Eltham, before travelling to Uki on day two, with the final leg finishing at Lennox Head.<\/p>\n<p>The Boaty Boys formed about five years ago as a fitness and support group for men in the region and regularly undertake fundraising challenges for charity.<\/p>\n<p>Boaty Boys event organiser Grant McGregor said this year&#8217;s ride aimed to draw attention to the scale of domestic violence in NSW.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Each year we attempt a different challenge and this year we wanted to do something around the theme of domestic violence,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know NSW Police receive about 350 calls every day relating to domestic violence, so that&#8217;s why we&#8217;re riding the distance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Funds raised will go to the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect to support delivery of the Love Bites program in local schools through Ballina Rotary clubs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_121477\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-121477\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-121477\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/01\/LennoxHeadcyclefundr_24500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/01\/LennoxHeadcyclefundr_24500.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/01\/LennoxHeadcyclefundr_24500-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/01\/LennoxHeadcyclefundr_24500-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/01\/LennoxHeadcyclefundr_24500-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/01\/LennoxHeadcyclefundr_24500-1024x1536.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-121477\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The group ride will cover 350km with a gala fundraiser dinner at the Eltham Hotel with another event at Club Lennox Sports. Photo: EVANNA KELLY<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The program focuses on respectful relationships, healthy communication, consent and violence prevention among teenagers.<\/p>\n<p>Additional funds will be used to provide mobile phones for women leaving abusive relationships.<\/p>\n<p>The event will also include a charity gala night with silent auctions at the Eltham Hotel, while the final stage of the ride will feature a police escort and a community event hosted by Club Lennox Sports<\/p>\n<p>About 50 Boaty Boys members will take part, with another 50 places open to community riders.<\/p>\n<p>Participants will stay at prearranged campsites each night, with meals provided by Rotary and support vehicles assisting riders along the route.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our group has been a game changer for a lot of guys, myself included,&#8221; McGregor said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We hold ourselves to a high standard, with the community always front of mind.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Registrations are available via Eventbrite.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LENNOX Head fitness and men&#8217;s mental health support group the Boaty Boys will ride 350km to raise funds for women affected by domestic violence.
