{"id":121592,"date":"2026-01-27T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-26T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/?p=121592"},"modified":"2026-01-21T22:53:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T11:53:08","slug":"community-safety-forum-to-address-crime-rates-and-ongoing-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/news\/community-safety-forum-to-address-crime-rates-and-ongoing-concerns\/","title":{"rendered":"Community safety forum to address crime rates and ongoing concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>RISING crime concerns in Lismore will be discussed at a public Community Safety Forum bringing police, emergency services and elected representatives together with residents.<\/p>\n<p>The forum, hosted by Lismore City Council in partnership with Southern Cross University, will be held at SCU&#8217;s J-Block on Tuesday, February 17, from 5pm to 7.30pm.<\/p>\n<p>The event will include state and federal MPs and will be facilitated by Southern Cross University pro vice-chancellor Ben Roche.<\/p>\n<p>Residents will be able to hear directly from agencies involved in community safety and raise concerns about crime, reporting and local responses.<\/p>\n<p>A council spokesperson said the forum followed a council resolution to hold an open public consultation focused on practical, community-led safety solutions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Speakers from a range of emergency agencies and community leaders will outline what work is currently being done to improve safety in our community and where further action is needed,&#8221; the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>A question-and-answer session will allow attendees to raise specific issues with agency representatives.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers include Lismore City Council mayor Steve Krieg, Page MP Kevin Hogan, NSW MP Janelle Saffin and NSW Police superintendent Dave Roptell.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives from Business Lismore, Northern NSW Local Health District, NSW Ambulance, the Department of Communities and Justice, Social Futures and PCYC will also take part.<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson said the forum would also encourage residents to report incidents directly to police rather than posting about them on social media.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This will help police build an evidence base to support requests for additional resources,&#8221; the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>People attending are encouraged to register online at <a href=\"http:\/\/lismore.form.oneblink.io\/28648\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lismore.form.oneblink.io\/28648<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RISING crime concerns in Lismore will be discussed at a public Community Safety Forum bringing police, emergency services and elected representatives together with residents.
