POLICE and community leaders have urged Lismore residents to report crime to help build the evidence needed for improved local safety measures, following a community forum.<\/p>\n
The forum, hosted by Lismore City Council with Southern Cross University, focused on practical advice for residents and business owners amid concerns about rising crime.<\/p>\n
Speakers included Page MP Kevin Hogan, Lismore MP Janelle Saffin and NSW Police superintendent Dave Roptell, alongside representatives from emergency services, health and community organisations.<\/p>\n
Lismore mayor Steve Krieg said the forum brought key agencies together around a clear message.<\/p>\n
“The more data we can collect on crimes in our community, the more ammunition we have to take to state government to help get more services on the ground,” he said.<\/p>\n
“The main message is to make the report and see if the evidence backs up the community sentiment. I encourage anyone who witnesses or is a victim of a crime to report it.”<\/p>\n
The meeting also outlined council’s support role, including plans to increase the number and visibility of rangers.<\/p>\n
“Council is a support network to the police and other emergency services,” Krieg said.<\/p>\n
“They are there to monitor and address council issues, not to arrest or detain people, but there have been calls for more of them, particularly from local businesses, and we’re responding to that.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
