VOLUNTEERS and support teams joined a dedicated group of cyclists who tackled a grueling 350km endurance test over three days in the Ride Against the Wind Challenge.<\/p>\n

The charity ride was organised by Lennox Head fitness group and men\u2019s support group the Boaty Boys to raise awareness and funds to combat domestic and family violence.<\/p>\n

About 50 riders from across the region showed determination and resilience during the challenge.<\/p>\n

Run in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Ballina on Richmond, the ride took participants from Bonalbo to Eltham, continued to Uki on day two, and finished at Lennox Head.<\/p>\n

The distance mirrored the reported 350 domestic violence calls made in New South Wales each day.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s about raising awareness, starting important conversations, and generating much-needed funds for organisations working on the front line of domestic violence support,\u201d event organiser Grant McGregor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDomestic violence prevention has been a focus for Rotary Ballina on Richmond for some time and we\u2019re incredibly proud to partner with them to help raise awareness and much-needed funds through this challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ride is latest in the groups long-standing commitment to community fundraising.<\/p>\n

The Boaty Boys have previously been part of gruelling marathons and challenges supporting mental health, Parkinson\u2019s disease, children\u2019s health, and regional recovery initiatives.<\/p>\n

Overall funds raised will go towards the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect to support delivery of the Love Bites program in local schools.<\/p>\n

It will also be used for the DV Safe Phone program which provides refurbished mobile phones to people fleeing domestic violence, giving them a vital connection to emergency services and support networks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
