THE Ballina Mother’s Day Classic is set to return, with a dedicated group of volunteers organising a 4km walk and run in support of breast and ovarian cancer research.<\/p>\n

The event will be held at Missingham Park on Sunday, 10 May, marking a welcome revival for the community fundraiser after a three-year hiatus.<\/p>\n

Local organiser Melanie Ward said the event had been brought back by a group of volunteers, with around 200 participants expected to take part.<\/p>\n

Participants are encouraged to dress in pink with a large number of tutus expected to be worn among the support groups.<\/p>\n

“We’re really excited to see the event return to Ballina,” she said.<\/p>\n

“It’s about bringing people together to remember, honour and celebrate, but also to raise awareness and show support for those impacted by cancer.<\/p>\n

“It’s nice for women to know that we’re thinking of them and that they’re not alone.<\/p>\n

“It takes many people to achieve a big goal, and this is all about raising awareness and providing support for women with breast and ovarian cancer.”<\/p>\n

Held under the banner of the Mother’s Day Classic Foundation, the event supports vital research through the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.<\/p>\n

Over nearly three decades, the Mother’s Day Classic has raised more than $48 million for breast cancer research nationally, with an additional $2.57 million contributed to ovarian cancer research since 2024.<\/p>\n

Local groups and organisations are getting behind the event, including Ballina Bosom Buddies, who will add a splash of colour on the day, while Blushed Salon will host a photo booth.<\/p>\n

Staff from Ballina District Hospital are also expected to participate in strong numbers.<\/p>\n
