{"id":125929,"date":"2026-05-27T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/?p=125929"},"modified":"2026-05-20T16:23:57","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T06:23:57","slug":"local-support-groups-included-in-regional-transport-trial-to-help-people-access-education-and-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/byroncoasttimes\/news\/local-support-groups-included-in-regional-transport-trial-to-help-people-access-education-and-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Local support groups included in regional transport trial to help people access education and work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new regional transport trial will expand travel options for disadvantaged people across the region, helping improve access to education, training and employment opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>Transport for NSW has included HART Services and The Community Transport Company in the trial.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, community transport is a service available to transport disadvantaged groups such as eligible seniors, pensioners, those with accessibility needs or people who have limited access to public transport.<\/p>\n<p>The expanded service will support individuals needing to attend face-to-face study at TAFE NSW, other registered training organisations, or to travel to work as apprentices or trainees.<\/p>\n<p>The Community Transport Company operates across the Northern Rivers, providing low-cost transport for older people, people with disability, those who are frail, and their carers.<\/p>\n<p>HART Services delivers similar support across Lismore, Kyogle, Richmond Valley and surrounding areas, assisting seniors, pensioners and people with accessibility needs or limited access to public transport.<\/p>\n<p>The trial will be tailored to the needs of each community and delivered through trusted local providers.<\/p>\n<p>Head of regional integration at Transport for NSW Anthony Hayes said access to reliable and affordable transport remains one of the biggest barriers for people living in regional areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis trial is a valuable test-and-learn opportunity, helping us understand how community transport can better connect more people to education and employment, while continuing to support those who already rely on these services today,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy extending community transport to support access to training, apprenticeships and further education, the trial could open new pathways for people and help them build new skills and secure long-term employment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The trial will be closely monitored, with feedback from customers and providers helping to shape future transport options.<\/p>\n<p>It is time-limited and will run until 30 June 2027, with start dates varying across participating regions.<\/p>\n<p>Criteria and eligibility information can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/transportnsw.info\/travel-info\/ways-to-get-around\/community-transport.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>transportnsw.info\/travel-info\/ways-to-get-around\/community-transport.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new regional transport trial will expand travel options for disadvantaged people across the region, helping improve access to education, training and employment opportunities.
