FORTY people from around the world became Australian citizens at a ceremony in Lismore this month.<\/p>\n
The ceremony was held at the Adam Gilchrist Pavilion, where mayor Steve Krieg welcomed the new citizens on behalf of the community.<\/p>\n
The group represented countries including Chile, Fiji, France, Germany, India, Iran, Japan, Nepal, New Zealand, Nigeria, the Philippines, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Vanuatu and Vietnam.<\/p>\n
Krieg said citizenship ceremonies were among the most rewarding responsibilities of local government.<\/p>\n
“One of the great honours of being mayor is welcoming new Australian citizens into our community,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Citizenship is a major milestone, and I congratulate everyone who took this step. We are proud to welcome you as part of Lismore’s story and Australia’s future.”<\/p>\n
