LISMORE City Council will focus on safety and public space improvements across the CBD, with ongoing investment in lighting, CCTV upgrades and strategic parking plans.<\/p>\n
Mayor Steve Krieg said the coordinated approach is designed to strengthen public safety while improving how people move through and experience the CBD.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know the community wants to see practical action that improves how people experience the CBD every day,\u201d Krieg said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis work is about making public spaces safer, easier to access and more active, while supporting long-term planning and better use of community facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n
A key focus of the program has been improving surveillance and visibility across high-use public areas.<\/p>\n
Throughout the 2025\/26 financial year, the council has installed new and upgraded CCTV systems at several locations including City Hall, the Municipal Building, Lismore Memorial Baths, the Lismore Skatepark and multiple CBD roundabouts.<\/p>\n
Lighting improvements have also been rolled out across the CBD, with upgraded wayfinding lighting installed at major roundabouts, improved street lighting in Keen Street and Shearman Drive, and enhanced lighting at the Lismore Skatepark.<\/p>\n
Further works are underway, including additional wayfinding lighting at key intersections, LED uplighting along Woodlark Street, and lighting upgrades on Robert White Bridge and Fawcett Bridge.<\/p>\n
The council is also progressing a broader review of CBD parking and accessibility, with a comprehensive Parking Strategy set to be developed later this year.<\/p>\n
Krieg said recent discussions around accessible parking in Zadoc Street highlighted the importance of a city-wide, planned approach.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe understand how important accessible parking is, particularly around key destinations like the Court precinct,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt this stage, no changes are being made within the CBD core until the broader Parking Strategy is completed, ensuring access, safety and demand are considered across the entire CBD.\u201d<\/p>\n
Targeted improvements continue near key facilities, including the Lismore Skatepark, where accessible parking options are currently under review by the Local Traffic Internal Working Group.<\/p>\n
A draft parking plan for Uralba Street has also been prepared, with a formalised car park identified as a priority following the skatepark\u2019s completion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
