LISMORE City Council has committed almost $175 million in a major infrastructure program aimed at restoring and upgrading the city\u2019s road, bridge and landslip-affected network.
\nThe adopted 2026\u201327 budget includes $78.8 million for landslip remediation, $76.7 million for road upgrades, and $19.1 million for bridges and related structures.
\nMayor Steve Krieg said the investment has been shaped by community feedback, with road conditions consistently identified as the major concern.
\n\u201cOur road network is critical to how people live, work and connect, and this budget makes it a clear priority,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cThis is about restoring confidence in our roads and ensuring they are fit for the future.
\n\u201cThe coming year marks a ramping up of delivery, with projects moving from planning into construction.
\nKrieg said much of the program is supported by external funding, allowing council to progress the extensive repair program without placing additional pressure on ratepayers.
\nMajor landslip remediation works include almost $15 million allocated to Terania Creek Road, Koonorigan Road and Oakey Creek Road, with funding largely provided through the federal government\u2019s Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program.
\nSignificant upgrades are also planned across key corridors including Dunoon Road and Tweed Street, Rous Road and Tregeagle Road, alongside restoration works on Wyrallah Road, Orion Street and Coraki Road.
\nThe council has secured $4.86 million for the Dunoon Road and Tweed Street corridor upgrade, with construction to be staged across the 2026\u201327 and 2027\u201328 financial years.
\nThe project is expected to improve safety and support key community assets including the Lismore Showground and cattle saleyards, while also accommodating future growth in North Lismore.
\nThe Tregeagle Road project, valued at $1.57 million, will include pavement widening, rehabilitation and reshaping along a 900-metre section south of Rous Road near Rudwick Road.
\nThe $3.4 million Rous Road upgrade will deliver pavement widening, rehabilitation, reshaping and realignment works along a 1.7-kilometre section between Alphadale Road and Dalwood Road.
\n\u201cThese projects will improve road safety, driving conditions and network resilience while also reducing ongoing maintenance requirements and improving connectivity for the surrounding rural community,\u201d Krieg said.
