Her practice spans soft sculptures, ceramic sculptures, abstract textural paintings and installations, using materials ranging from spray foam to create twisted sculptures such as Bubblegum Swirl, to pink perspex used for framing.<\/p>\n
She has also spray-painted milk crates and regularly uses Polyfilla to create texture in her abstract paintings.<\/p>\n
Her most recent exhibition, Bubblegum Bruises II, was held at Garage Gallery in Mullumbimby in June.<\/p>\n
The 47-year-old has previously worked in hospitality roles at Harvest at Newrybar, Bayleaf and Barrio, as well as working as a florist, nail artist, makeup artist and hairdresser.<\/p>\n
Her hairdressing background inspired one of her most eye-catching works, a pink chair covered in synthetic hair titled She sat here and became untouchable.<\/p>\n
“I had pink chairs at home and wigs and I thought ‘maybe I can put this on here’ and it came together really well,” she said.<\/p>\n
The work has now led to her latest accolade as a finalist in the Tweed Regional Gallery’s Wollumbin Art Award.<\/p>\n
The biennial $30,000 award is open to artists living in the Tweed, Ballina, Byron, Kyogle and Scenic Rim shires, as well as Richmond Valley, Lismore and Gold Coast City.<\/p>\n
Named after the mountain overlooking the gallery, the award celebrates the calibre and diversity of artists across the region.<\/p>\n
The winners will be announced on 29 August, with the finalists’ works also going on exhibition until 15 November.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
