Awards offer growth and recognition
Win or otherwise, this year’s chair of judging Simon Flowers says the Geelong Business Excellence Awards provide an invaluable opportunity for local businesses to grow.
An expert judging panel, comprised of professionals spanning a variety of industries and associations, has been assembled to select this year’s award recipients across a total of 20 categories.
Each entrant will be judged for their achievements across five key criteria, including business achievements, marketing, customer service, people and culture and finance.
“Whether you’re a sole trader, medium or large business, the awards provide an incredible opportunity to work on your business,” Mr Flowers said.
“Here is an opportunity to reflect and gain valuable insights and identify key improvements of your business.
“If you don’t win, the simple fact that you entered will allow you to walk away with a mini business plan and hopefully provide some further clarity on how to improve and grow your business.”
To put yourself in the best position, Mr Flowers recommends entrants address all submission criteria, back-up their answers with evidence and make use of the free information sessions organised by the Geelong Chamber of Commerce.
With entries opening yesterday (Thursday, May 2), Mr Flowers said all business stood to gain from the submission process and invited everyone to have a go.
“Some businesses think they are too small or not ready to enter. I say, ‘Give it a go’.
“If you don’t think you are ready, more the reason to enter.
“The process allows you to really focus on your business and you also get some constructive feedback from the expert judging panel.”
First-time entrants and businesses that have never been a finalist in the awards also have the option to use Geelong Chamber of Commerce’s free review service.
“The awards provide a platform for publicity, networking and facilitating connections with the business community,” Mr Flowers said.
“It is an amazing opportunity to showcase your business, boost employee morale and identify areas for improvement.”
Finalists will be announced on August 1, ahead of this year’s presentation event at The Pier, Geelong on Thursday, October 17. For more information, head to gbea.com.au
