AUSTRALIAN musical icon Kate Ceberano will be bringing her powerhouse vocals to Geelong early next month.
Ceberano will be playing at the Geelong Art’s Centre’s Costa Hall on July 11 as part of her Australian Made tour.
The award-winning artist is set to deliver a sublime swag of her own platinum hits woven seamlessly with reimagined classics by some of her biggest inspirations.
Expect to hear a rich vein of Australian music including material from Kate’s band I’m Talking as well as INXS, The Models, Divinyls, The Saints, John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes, Icehouse and more.
With 40 years of musical mastery under her belt, Ceberano has amassed 11 platinum and eight gold albums, is a multiple ARIA winner and a member of the Australian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
She said excitement was high for her return to Geelong.
“There are many things I love about Geelong. My husband and I got married in Queenscliff, and he’s a surfer so we are constantly headed through that way.
“Costa Hall has become one of my favourite venues to play in Victoria. I just love it so much. It’s got this really good space for the public; everyone can see and hear. I’ve only ever had magical gigs there.
“I’ve watched it [Geelong] change a lot from the ’70s and ’80s, it has stepped right up and become almost the second city to Melbourne. I’m looking forward to getting back there.”
The Australian Made Tour will be both a personal reflection and a gesture of shared national nostalgia from the iconic 1986-1987 Australian Made shows.
“There were punk bands on the bill, there were funk bands on the bill, there was more politically minded bands,” Ceberano said.
“Australian Made showed in order to be Australian, you didn’t have to be playing any type of music, you just had to be Australian and that in itself was a license to drive.
“When we put those shows together and it just went off its nuts. We had 50,000 and 70,000 people turning up to see it.
“We felt proud to do a very Australian thing and prove everyone wrong.”
Ceberano said the Geelong show would not only land in the ’80s but also explore the progress of Australian acts.
“It’ll showcase everyone from Silverchair, to Wolfmother. I’ve been performing Megan Washington too and a variety of other contemporary artists.
“I assure people that it’s a real Australian Made thing that hasn’t quit since we put it on the plate back then.”
Ceberano will be flanked by fellow Aussie musician Harts and Kathleen Halloran.
Halloran, who is rapidly rising up the ranks as one of the nation’s new mistress of string, is also front and centre as the show’s support act.
