US indie favourites Fruit Bats, Frankston’s The Belair Lip Bombs and Sydney psych-rockers The Lazy Eyes are all heading to Anglesea as part of a new run of live music shows over winter and spring.

The Sound Doctor has secured the three acts for performances at Anglesea Memorial Hall across August and September.

The Belair Lip Bombs open the series on 14 August, just days before departing for a tour of Europe and the United States.

The four-piece has spent the past eight years building a reputation for hook-laden indie rock. Its 2025 album Again became the first Australian release on Jack White’s Third Man Records label.

“The Belair Lip Bombs are the real deal, and catching them before they head overseas makes this a genuinely special occasion,” The Sound Doctor founder Dr David Corbet said.

Fruit Bats follows on 15 August in support of the band’s latest album, The Landfill.

Led by singer-songwriter Eric D. Johnson, Fruit Bats is best known for its blend of folk, indie rock and Americana. Johnson has also collaborated extensively with indie rock band The Shins and established himself as one of the genre’s most respected songwriters.

“We have wanted to bring [the Fruit Bats] to Anglesea for a long time,” Dr Corbet said.

“Eric Johnson is the kind of songwriter who makes you feel like he is playing just for you.”

The Lazy Eyes will round out the three-show run on 25 September with their Cheesy Love Songs national tour.

The Sydney band broke through with the psychedelic anthem Fuzz Jam, which received full rotation on triple j, and has since built one of Australia’s strongest live reputations.

“The Lazy Eyes are one of those bands where you walk out of the show not quite knowing what just happened to you,” Dr Corbet said.

“We cannot wait to see what they do with our crowd.”

The lineup continues The Sound Doctor’s focus on bringing established Australian and international touring acts to regional audiences.

Named the state’s best regional small venue at the 2024 Music Victoria Awards, The Sound Doctor has consistently attracted touring artists that far outweigh the size of its volunteer-run operation.

“The response to this year’s program has been genuinely humbling,” Dr Corbet said.

“We are a volunteer-run organisation in a small coastal town, and the fact that people are travelling from across the region to be here means everything to us.”
