Chocolate Starfish to rock Geelong in 30th anniversary tour

Australian rock band Chocolate Starfish will perform in Geelong this October to celebrate 30 years since the release of its 1994 self-titled debut album.

Its ‘Best of Everything’ tour promises audiences the very best of Chocolate Starfish, from high energy performances to fan favourite hits.

The tour will span five states before concluding on October 12 at Geelong Arts Centre’s The Play House.

Frontman Adam Thompson said the band couldn’t wait to hit the road.

“Thirty years in, we know where our fans are and the spaces we love to work.

“Our fan base is growing, and I think that’s because we’ve evolved and give our fans a very physical, theatrical show.

“We love that we’re winning new fans with every performance and welcome the latecomers – or next gen – with open arms.”

Today, the band comprises Thompson (vocals), John Nixon (bass), Darren Danielson (drums), Norm Falvo (keyboard) and Zakk Zedras (guitar).

“Our audience is the centrepiece of the Starfish experience,” Thompson said.

“We perform with them, not for them.

“They deserve the best of everything – so that’s what we will give them.”

Chocolate Starfish first formed in 1992 and are best known for “You’re So Vain”, a cover version of the 1972 hit by Carly Simon.

The track appeared on the band’s debut album alongside its original hit “Mountain”.

After disbanding in 1998, Chocolate Starfish reformed in 2010 and have since released a further three studio albums.

The band has also performed classic albums by INXS and Queen, and last year toured Australia performing Meat Loaf’s iconic 1977 album Bat Out of Hell.

“So many iconic Aussie bands were formed in the 80s and 90s and were an inspiration to us,” Thompson said.

“There’s not a huge list of them still performing regularly like we are and with most of their long-term members.

“We’re great mates and all love performing live – anyone who has been to a Starfish show can feel that.”

For Thompson, who will celebrate this 60th birthday prior to the beginning of the tour, the band’s 30th anniversary marks half his lifetime with Chocolate Starfish.

“Sometimes it feels like these first 30 years, we’ve just been warming up,” he said.

“This is truly the best of everything we have to offer. For now.”
