HEATHCOTE’S largest event is returning to the region this King’s Birthday long weekend with winemakers, distillers and musicians preparing for the occasion.

Running for more than a decade, Heathcote on Show will return from June 7 until June 9, featuring a festival atmosphere and plenty of entertainment.

More than 20 venues will participate across the weekend, each hosting a variety of tastings, with new releases on the menu, live music and light meals.

Special ticketed events will run during the two days with Miss May performing at the Silver Spoon Estate, Tellurian Wines will host barrel room dinners and the Three Dams Estate’s Comedy night at the Union Hotel.

The annual event has been running for more than 10 years, beginning as a way to bring people into the region.

Heathcote Tourism and Development Inc president Peter Young said one of the highlights of the show is always the music at Munari Wines.

“They’ve just done a renovation to their cellar door and they’ve also expanded it significantly,” he said.

“They will also have a marquee and they’ll have bands playing throughout the weekend, that’s more of a chill out atmosphere.”

Mr Young said the annual event started as a way to bring people to the town.

“A lot of people come because of Heathcote on Show and then come back later and spend more time at individual places that they liked.

Event organisers hope people heading along to the event will get a break from their everyday lives.

“It’s building up our reputation and Heathcote for the last three years, has been one of the top three tourism towns in Victoria in the small town category.”

Mr Young encouraged people to head along to the event and is confident those who do will have a great time.

“I hope they get a great break from their busy lives and can find some new places they probably didn’t know about, try some new wines and just enjoy themselves and have fun.”

A hop-on-hop-off bus will run up the Northern highway throughout the weekend, ensuring visitors can make their way around the venues safely.
