Potato Shed preps for Summer Series

Performance and summer go together at the Potato Shed, with the popular Drysdale venue getting ready for this year’s edition of its Summer Series.

Starting in mid-January and running for two weeks, the Potato Shed will host children’s entertainment, tributes to musicians from around the world, and a taste of the sea.

Everyone’s favourite pre-school band The Mik Maks bring their hugely successful sound to the outdoor stage on January 15. Featuring Drums the Panda, Al and Joel McInnes will be joined by Joel’s 14 year-old daughter Ava. Celebrating 10 years of entertaining the young and young at heart, pack a picnic and rug and get ready to dance and sing. The Potato Shed will also provide a stack of outdoor games and fun for the whole family.

Dave Cosma and Damon Smith return with the Sun Rising Band on January 21 with Sun Rising: The songs that made Memphis. The story of Sam Phillips’ legendary Sun Studio is brought to life through the songs that transformed the studio into a touch-stone for all who love and apprecia

te the roots of rock n’ roll, and for the musicians who got their first break in the fickle world of music. Smith and Cosma’s hugely successful show recounts the remarkable story of the Memphis studio that would go on to transform rock n’ roll and the many musicians who are bywords for this enduring musical style.

Changing tack, The Seven Seas is a soulful journey of transformation. This one-off performance on January 27 in the black box theatre will give you an experience of life at sea through theatre, dance and music. In a staged first reading of this new play, the audience will meet Emberly Donahue, who completed a single-handed circumnavigation of the globe at the age of 70. A woman of utmost spirit, courage and tenacity responding to a deep personal longing, Emberly’s life-changing journey unfolds as she recollects the surprising discoveries of her isolated voyage.

Rounding out the 2023 Summer Series is a tribute to arguably Australasia’s most successful musical export, Crowded House. Pineapple Head – Crowded House Unplugged Tribute Show takes over the outdoor stage on January 28. Featuring all the greatest hits of the much-loved band, it will be a singalong like no other.
