HOOP Gallery, one of Victoria’s most vibrant contemporary art spaces, is making waves in the Australian arts community with the announcement of a new, generous art prize designed to spotlight and support local artists.

The inaugural Talburac Art Prize invites creatives to submit their works for a chance to win a substantial monetary award, accompanied by a feature exhibition at the gallery.

The Talburac Art Prize is a significant new initiative made possible through the generous philanthropic support of founding Hoop Gallery member and artist Ron Talbot. This non-acquisitive prize offers a total of $13,000 in awards, including a major prize of $10,000, and aims to foster creativity, elevate artistic talent, and honour the enduring legacy of Ron’s late wife, Andre.

Named after the couple’s beloved rural property in Wurdiboluc, Talburac is more than a name—it’s a symbol of bold creativity, collaboration, and a deep connection to place.

The prize reflects Ron and Andre’s shared belief in the transformative power of art and their long-standing commitment to nurturing the arts community.

“This prize is a tribute to Andre’s creative spirit and our shared journey,” Ron Talbot said.

“It’s about giving back to the community that inspired us and encouraging artists to keep pushing boundaries.”

In a time when artists are seeking meaningful opportunities for exposure and support, the Talburac Art Prize aims to make a real difference.

This prize supports Hoop Gallery’s vision that they are more than a gallery – they are a creative destination for innovation and inspiration.

The new art prize has been made possible through the support of artist and founding Hoop Gallery member Ron Talbot.

The prize isn’t just about recognising outstanding artistic practice, it’s about creating a platform for fresh voices and offering real backing to help artists build their future.

The art prize reinforces Hoop Gallery’s ongoing commitment to cultivating an inclusive and dynamic creative community in the Greater Geelong region and beyond.

The judging panel will consist of industry experts and respected artists who will assess works on originality, technical skill, and conceptual depth.

The 2025 Talburac Art Prize invites artists from the G21 region (Surf Coast, Geelong, Colac Otway, Golden Plains and Queenscliffe municipalities) to submit works responding to the theme “Seasonal Shifts”.

The exhibition will run from November 7 to November 30 at Hoop Gallery, showcasing 50 selected works.

All other entries will be acknowledged in-gallery and featured in an online catalogue.

The winner of the main prize will take home $10,000, while Highly Commended, People’s Choice Award and Emerging Talent Award will receive $1,000.

Entries opened on July 1 and close on August 31, with winners to be announced at a special gala event held at Hoop Gallery on November 7.
