THE Queenscliff Neighbourhood House Gallery’s (QNHG) popular ‘The Artful Collager’ exhibition is back for another year showcasing the imaginative collage compositions of 14 local female artists of various ages and abilities.

From June 3 to July 7, the gallery will be the home to more than 30 separate collage works from Bellarine artists including Chloe Allen, Elisa Allen, Anita Armytage, Silvana Bennachio, Lizzie Bohan, Chris Bubb, Bronwen Daddo, Nell Frysteen, Shirley Hurley, Julie Morgan, Bronwyn Minifie, Gail McNaulty, Heather Newman and Moira Smith.

The collages will predominantly feature recycled and handmade papers or portions of old artworks and photos which will be cut, torn or posted onto paper or canvas and supplemented with extra ink or paint to bring new to life.

The art on show includes portraits, flora and fauna pieces and colourful landscapes.

According to Chair of the House Gallery, Julie Morgan, the exciting mix of artwork on show will include portraits, lively and colourful landscapes, flora and fauna and collages of interior spaces.

“Collage exhibitions are always our most popular exhibitions both in terms of participation and sales.

“I think it’s something to do with the freedom that artists have and their ability to come up with some absolutely amazing pieces of artwork.

“It’s a really versatile medium and there aren’t really any rules to follow… you can really have fun with it.

“Many of the artists featured usually specialise in oils, watercolour or acrylics, but like to dabble in the art of collage as it gives them more freedom to play with colour, perspective and composition.

“We really can’t wait to see the quality of work once this year and look forward to sharing it with our community.”

The collage exhibition has become one of the gallery’s best and most popular

Well known Bellarine artist Anita Armytage will showcase some of her works in the exhibition.

All artwork at the exhibition will be available for sale and will go towards helping the local artists funds their practice.

The exhibition will be the Queenscliff Neighbourhood House Gallery’s fourth major showing of the year and follows their successful ‘Exploring the Art of Picture Books: an illustrator’s exhibition’.

Details on an accompanying collage workshop with exhibition curator Anita Armytage is also set to become available in the coming days.

Entry to the exhibition is free.
