While the industrial steel and metal sculptures are the ones that instantly draw attention, there is more to see at The Creek Gallery and Garden than meets the eye.

To complement their outdoor garden collection that many people spot while driving past the Freshwater Creek site on Anglesea Road, The Creek Gallery and Garden has recently opened a new indoor gallery that showcases unique local art across various mediums.

Set in the original Freshwater Creek post office, a space that has been renovated and given a new lease on life, the new gallery features contemporary artwork and photography, pottery, woodwork, jewellery and soaps all from local creatives on the Surf Coast, Bellarine and Geelong region.

Photography from Apollo Bay artist Andrew Strang is currently on show.

The Creek Gallery manager Gayle Seach said the old post office space had been screaming to be set up into an art gallery due to its beautiful interior space.

“The post office space was built in the 1860s and is quite significant and the perfect space for an art gallery.

“We were quite delighted to have the opportunity to bring the space back to life and transform it into this quiet and beautiful and unique indoor creative hub.

“The collection of artwork and photos that we have and aim to install in the gallery in the future will be specially curated and contemporary and modern in style.

“It’s the type of work that would look great in holiday houses… its textured, colourful and sometimes abstract artwork with a bit of a coastal feel and vibe.

“At the moment we are exhibiting a mix of prints and photos from the artistic collection of my husband and I, and we look forward to growing that over time.”

The new art gallery is set inside the old Freshwater Creek post office.

Seach said the gallery had already received many compliments from the community in its short time being open.

“We’ve had so people drop in with many compliments… people are just so rapt to have something of this nature in the area.

“Because the post office building has been there for a very long time, people don’t really notice anything new, so we are really working on our signage to let people know about our new space.

“We are super-proud of it and ultimately hope we can share it with people far and wide into the future.”

The new art gallery includes paintings, photography, woodwork, jewellery, pottery and soaps made by local creatives.

The Creek Garden and Art Gallery is at 665 Anglesea Road, Freshwater Creek.

Opening hours are Monday to Sunday (excluding Tuesday) from 10am-4pm.
