TNG Studios is the Surf Coast’s new playground for podcasts, videos and big ideas.
Led by Matt Worland and Molly Perrett, the purpose-built, professional space, located in the heart of Torquay, offers businesses and creators a hub to bring their projects and brand stories to life.
For the talented duo, the studio is a natural extension to the work they’ve been doing with the Times News Group, and importantly, they have a ready-made platform, with an audience built over years, to leverage for those eager to explore its offering.
“We’re already doing it, why aren’t we doing it for everybody else?” Worland said of the studio’s origins.

“We already have that growth, we already have that database, we already have that social media audience that we can tap into, and so for us, it’s like we can offer you all of this.
“We could be a plain Jane agency if you want us to be, but we’ve also got a platform ready to go, which is pretty unique.”
Perhaps best known for his Saturday morning radio show The Warm Up on SEN, which he produces with former Geelong Cats star Cameron Mooney, Worland has two decades of experience in media that spans audio production, sports commentary, voiceover work and podcasting.
“In media, particularly radio…you have to wear a lot of hats, so you just naturally adapt,” he said.

With a talent for creating feel-good brand campaigns, Perrett brings years of marketing and promotions experience to the team.
“There’s no idea out of the question,” she said.
“We love brainstorming new ideas. We love being able to showcase different parts of the business and there’s no cookie cutter way to do it.
“I think that’s the beauty of content — being able to explore different opportunities and different promotional concepts that we can take to clients, and it’s really exciting and a really good way to work with them.
“We’re able to offer so many amazing services now that we are not just for the Times News Group, but for everybody else. We really like working with businesses and telling their story — and now we’ve got the ability to do so.”

She understands the daily grind better than most — the importance of visibility on social media to grow a brand, and the fear that those efforts aren’t delivering the desired engagement or return on investment.
“That’s where, if you have the conversation with us, we can have a look at what you’re doing, work out a strategy on how we can shake things up, how we can change that and really engage your audience in a new way,” Perrett said.
The Surf Coast Women’s Health Group is among the growing number of local businesses to have taken up the studio’s offering. Their monthly podcast Women Out Loud enables its team to educate women about healthcare in a new way, reaching a broader audience than previously possible.
Only six episodes in, the positive feedback continues to roll in, while the podcast has already helped the clinic generate new clients.

“It’s a really unique way to deliver content to the audience by getting information about their business out there,” Worland said.
He gets a real kick out of helping businesses that just are dipping their toe into the water for the first time, guiding them through the process to craft content that shows personality, aligns with their brand identity and captures the attention of their intended audience.
“I always say to people ‘Don’t bring in a stack of notes. You’re living and breathing this’. I’ll ask you the questions and you tell me about what you love about it and why you do it, and that’s where we go with it.
“It’s trying to just make people feel comfortable within that space, and I think once people sit down and take a few questions they realise ‘Oh, you know what? This isn’t actually too bad’.
“It’s exciting to see the growth in people and the kick they get out of it.”

And for those wanting to do their own thing, the space is also available for hire.
“It doesn’t have to be this elaborate operation. It could be just literally turning the microphone on and pressing record,” Worland said.
“You certainly don’t have to be an amazing talent or have worked behind a camera or microphone for years and years. I think there’s an opportunity for everyone to give it a go.”
