$174,900 in grants to enrich and connect Geelong region
MORE than 60 community groups, clubs, organisations and neighbourhood houses are celebrating the spoils of receiving a share of $174,900 in grants.
The latest City of Greater Geelong 2023-24 Community Grants were directed at helping to improve the health and wellbeing of community members.
A total of 15 Neighbourhood House grants of $141,500 were awarded to assist in the delivery of needs-based programs.
The Bellarine Living and Learning Centre, Norlane Community Centre, Cloverdale Community Centre and Geelong West Neighbourhood House all secured $11,500 grants for different initiatives.
Twenty grants totaling $9,920 were awarded for Children’s Week celebrations.
Organisations to benefit included the Geelong Area Multiple Births Association, Northern Bay College and Geelong Cricket Club.
Additionally, $23,480 in grants will support workshops, dances, concerts and sporting activities associated with Positive Ageing events.
The Seaview Club, Geelong Youth Orchestra, EdConnect Australia and the Ocean Grove & District Men’s Shed all received grants of more than $400 each.
Mayor Trent Sullivan said the supported events and initiatives would go a long way in helping locals live happy and lives.
“Council is proud to play a significant role in the development of projects, events, programs and activities that respond to community need and provide a safe space.
“We’re investing in grants because community groups and other organisations play a vital role in creating a more resilient and inclusive Greater Geelong.”
Deputy mayor Anthony Aitken said the grants program helped to acknowledge the contributions of community groups, organisations and clubs.
“Whether your group is looking to purchase new equipment, run a community event or upgrade facilities, our grants may be able to make your idea a reality.”
