IN 2006, a single pharmacy opened in Werribee with a simple idea: local pharmacies can help keep communities healthier by making care easier to access, more affordable and more personal for everyday Australians.
This pharmacy became the first Direct Chemist Outlet.
Two decades later, that same idea still guides everything the team does. From one small store to nearly 150 locations across Australia, the focus hasn’t changed.
It’s about giving customers a place to go for advice, to ask questions and to feel looked after, while keeping prices low and service friendly and personal.
Growing with the community
Direct Chemist Outlet’s growth has been steady and intentional, shaped by the needs of the communities it serves.
Within each store, customers encounter knowledgeable staff who understand the importance of their role, providing both value and professional care across a range of health needs.
Today, Direct Chemist Outlet stands among Australia’s fastest-growing pharmacy networks.
As customer needs change, Direct Chemist Outlet has expanded its services to support a fuller scope of care.

You can now access more help in one place, from everyday health advice to a wider range of pharmacy services, with the confidence that your healthcare professional is trained and qualified.
A word from the founder
Founded by pharmacist Ian Tauman, Direct Chemist Outlet emerged from the recognition that the balance between care and cost in pharmacy had shifted.
This principle underpins a model defined by low pricing, trusted quality products and maintaining a sense of local engagement.
“I wanted to create a pharmacy that could offer both professional healthcare and affordable prices,” Tauman said.
“People should never have to choose between the two. It comes down to people and consistency.
“Every store, every team member, every customer interaction matters. That is what builds trust over time. It is the combination of value, service and range.
“Customers know they can find what they need at a great price while still receiving professional advice and care.

“We will continue to grow, but our focus will remain the same: to support our customers, strengthen our teams and stay connected to our communities.”
Looking to the future
As Direct Chemist Outlet quickly approaches 150 stores, it does so with acontinued sense of purpose.
Growth enables broader access, improved value and greater consistency, but its central commitment remains unchanged: to serve our communities.
