2022 Surf Coast Trek a huge success

April 9, 2022 BY

KIDS Plus and the Give Where You Live Foundation are celebrating a successful 2022 Surf Coast Trek fundraiser, on track to raise $250,000.

The Surf Coast Trek, including a 40km trek from Aireys Inlet to Torquay and a shorter 26km trek from Anglesea to Torquay, serves as the biggest annual fundraiser for the two Geelong-based non-profits.

Events manager from Kids Plus Sharon Gibbons said this year’s event was a huge success, with a record number of registrations and a festive feel at the finish line.

“It was a brilliant day, a massive success,” Ms Gibbons said.

“We had a few people have to pull out because of COVID so numbers were down but the spirits were up, especially at the finish line.”

“Everyone was so positive and happy to be out and be together.”

“We’re on track to meet our target of 250 grand raised, and we just hit 200 grand.”

Ms Gibbons said a highlight of the day was a record racer finishing the 40km trek in five hours and 25 minutes.

All funds raised by the event will be split evenly between Kids Plus and The Give Where You Live Foundation.

Kids Plus works with paediatric allied health therapy and support services to support kids with cerebral palsy and similar neurological conditions.

The Give Where You Live Foundation works with the community’s most vulnerable to improve equity and address local disadvantage.

Fundraising will be open for another four weeks and anyone can support the cause by donating online or supporting someone who is registered.
