THE uncertainty caused by Victoria’s COVID-19 restrictions has forced the ABC to reschedule its planned pop-up Radio-in-Residency in Geelong from October this year to March 2022.

Throughout March 2022, audiences will be able to drop by and see ABC Radio Melbourne presenters including Virginia Trioli, Sammy J, Jacinta Parsons and Raf Epstein, who will broadcast live from a pop-up studio at Deakin University’s Waterfront campus.

“We are looking forward to getting out into the community next year once it’s safe to do so, deepening our engagement with local Geelong audiences and sharing more diverse stories from the region,” ABC Radio Melbourne local manager Dina Rosendorff said.

City of Greater Geelong deputy mayor Trent Sullivan said the ABC residency had been enabled by a partnership between the city, Deakin University and ABC Melbourne.

“While we’re disappointed that we won’t be hosting ABC Melbourne and ABC News as soon as we anticipated, we’re looking forward to the ABC Radio-in-Residency next March.”

The full program of community events and outside broadcasts will be released in early 2022.
