A PROPOSED amusement centre in South Geelong aims to fill a gap in the local market with activities such as axe throwing, escape rooms and smash rooms.

The City of Greater Geelong is considering a planning permit application to amend the use of the existing building at 12 Raptor Place, located within the industrial estate at the south end of Barwon Terrace.

According to the plans lodged with the city, the exterior of the warehouse would remain the same, but the interior would be modified.

The application states that the business “hopes to fill a gap in the Geelong market, offering entertainment to adults”.

Geelong already has several existing escape room businesses, but nowhere that offers smash rooms or axe throwing.

The exterior of the building would stay the same, but smash rooms, escape rooms and axe throwing lanes would be installed inside.

The South Geelong business would be managed by qualified staff members and have low-level background music playing inside.

There would be no more than 10 patrons and two staff at any one time, with “disabled toilet access and bins situated throughout the premises to ensure sufficient public amenities for patron use”.

The proposed opening hours ware 12 noon to 8pm on Thursdays, 12 noon to 8pm on Fridays, 10am to 10pm on Saturdays, and 9am to 8pm on Sundays.

Public comment on the application closes tomorrow (Saturday, January 13).
