THE Anakie community has banded together and raised close to $6,000 to help one of its own with treatment for uterine cancer.

The Anakie Football Netball Club and Anakie Cricket Club held a special T20 cricket match and auction last Friday night to support the mother of footy favourite Kyle Kent.

Kay Bell has been diagnosed with stage 4 uterine cancer and is on her fifth round of chemotherapy.

All funds raised during the raffle and festivities were donated towards her ongoing treatment.

Ms Bell’s son Kyle said the event far exceeded expectations and meant so much to the family.

“There would have a couple of hundred people there, it was incredible.

“Fundraising-wise, it was a good night. The auction went bonkers and we made some money to donate. It was unbelievable really.”

Ahead of Mr Kent shaving his head this weekend to generate additional funds, an online GoFundMe had raised more than $9,600 for the family.

“She’s got to have surgery soon, so she’ll be out of action for a while. This will all go towards fighting the big C,” he said.

“We can’t thank everyone enough. You can tell people as much as you want, but it’ll never be enough. We are so grateful.”
