Anglesea book spot in BFL Grand Final

ANGLESEA is through to its second consecutive Bellarine Football League Grand Final, with a heart and soul win over Torquay over the weekend.

The Roos ran out victors by 39 points in Saturday’s preliminary final, putting Torquay to the sword in a dynamic second half of gameplay.

Torquay started the game in strong form, kicking five goals to two in the first quarter to put them up by three straight kicks at the end of the first break.

A five goal second quarter had Anglesea back in the match, with midfielder Harry Ling kicking two of his own to put Anglesea ahead by one point at the main change.

Two quick goals from Torquay utility Tynan Smith put Torquay back in front five minutes into the second half, before Anglesea braced again through two goals from Jack Walters and another from Harry Ling who continued his masterclass performance.

With plenty to play for in the last quarter, North Geelong recruit Dale Kerr kicked truly to put Anglesea up by 21 points seconds into the final stanza.

Torquay missed a few opportunities at goal, before Anglesea stormed home with the last four goals of the match to win 106-67.

Ling was named best afield for Anglesea, while Ike Hardiman was brave in defence as was Jack Walters up forward.

For Torquay, team of the year member Ben McNamara was rock solid in defence, while Leopold recruit Oliver Tate and swingman Weylin Doyle also had a strong performance.

Anglesea will now meet Geelong Amateur in this weekend’s Bellarine Football League Grand Final in what is sure to be a thrilling clash.
