WHILE Anzac Day services take place across the nation, Geelong’s City Hall will commemorate the 110th anniversary of the landing of troops at Gallipoli with a set of projections.

The first projections will begin today (Friday, April 25) with an early showing to align with the Dawn Service in Johnson Park before lighting up again from dusk until 11.30pm and run until April 27.

Through the free art program, the stories of Anzacs will be told using symbols of sacrifice, and remembering the soldiers who lost their lives.

Included in the showcase are soldiers and nurses during World War I and sculptures by Peter Corlett, alongside the exploration of the World War I honour roll, involvement of women and volunteer troops.

“Anzac Day is an annual reminder to acknowledge not only the soldiers and nurses who served during World War 1, but Australians who have served in all wars,” Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said.

“I encourage the community to experience this family-friendly display, which tells the story of mateship and the Aussie spirit.”

Photography, historical images, paintings and monuments used in the program were brought together by Ian de Gruchy and Olaf Meyer and produced by Multimedia Events.

“This year’s Anzac Day events are a great way for community to come together and remember all those who served our country and those that still do,” Geelong RSL sub-branch president Mark Lee said.

“The City Hall Anzac projections beautifully reflect this.”

The community is also invited to explore the war memorials and military objects across the municipality. For more information, head to geelong.link/war-memorials-military-objects
