FAMILIES in Charlemont and Armstrong Creek can now apply for kindergarten places at a new community hub expected to open at the start of 2027.

The Yirrama Community Hub will provide 132 kindergarten places alongside maternal and child health, allied health and community services as the region’s population continues to grow.

The purpose-built facility, on the corner of Amber Avenue and Precinct Road, will include four kindergarten rooms and be co-located with the new Yirrama Primary School, creating a single drop-off point for local families.

The hub’s design draws on the Wadawurrung story of Parrwang, the magpie, and was developed in consultation with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners to embed cultural knowledge throughout the facility.

Meli Kindergarten Services has been appointed to operate the hub.

Meli already delivers 32 kindergarten services across Greater Geelong, the Borough of Queenscliffe and Colac Otway Shire.

Chief executive officer Robyn Hayles said the organisation was delighted to be selected as the operator.

“Centred around its kindergarten, the hub will be a vibrant shared space that supports lifelong learning, connection and wellbeing for children, families and the wider community,” she said.

“This will be a place where children feel safe, supported and excited to learn, where families feel valued, and where the community can gather to access a range of supports and opportunities that create a strong sense of belonging.”

The project is jointly funded by the City of Greater Geelong and the Victorian government.

Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney said the hub would help meet demand.

“As more young families move into the area, having kinder, maternal and child health services and community spaces close to home really matters,” she said.
