TWO schools in Armstrong Creek were plunged into lockdown earlier today (Thursday, March 7) following a disturbance in the area.

Oberon High School and the neighbouring Armstrong Creek School declared a Code Orange lockdown at about 1.30pm.

Parents of students at Oberon High School took to social media to voice their concerns after receiving a text message notifying them of the lockdown.

“We are currently in lockdown to avoid a potential disturbance at the school,” the message stated.

“All students are safely in classrooms with their teachers.”

Those in contact with their children at the school said classrooms had been locked, lights had been turned out, and both students and teachers were huddled under decks during the lockdown.

Victoria Police confirmed police attended a school on Batten Road, Armstrong Creek just before 2pm to conduct a safety check following reports of online threats.

The scene was deemed safe, and investigations remain ongoing in relation to the incident.

There was some speculation online that weapons were involved, but Victoria Police stated that on attendance, officers found no persons on school grounds who should not have been there, and no weapons were on the scene.
