A NEW sporting and recreation space is on the way for Armstrong Creek residents.
Coastside Drive Recreation Reserve, planned for 530 Horseshoe Bend Road, will transform more than 13 hectares into a community hub featuring sports fields, play spaces and a sports pavilion.
The project is expected to cost about $18 million.
City of Greater Geelong mayor, Stretch Kontelj, said the reserve had been designed with the area’s rapidly growing population in mind.
“This reserve will be a real boost for community health and wellbeing,” he said.
“Armstrong Creek is full of young families, so we’re planning spaces that grow with them – from playgrounds for kids to sports fields for teens and young adults.”

The city says the consultation process held in July drew strong community support, with almost 300 contributions received.
A project reference group, which included representatives from key sporting associations and a local sports club, also helped guide the masterplan’s development.
Charlemont Ward councillor, Emma Sinclair, said updates to the final masterplan were made to reflect the community’s input.
“We asked the community what they thought, and their feedback helped shape the final plan,” | she said.
“This will be an inclusive space with something for everyone – whether it’s sporting clubs playing games, families enjoying a picnic, or friends meeting at the playground.”
Construction on the sporting hub is scheduled to begin in 2027, with completion expected in 2028.
