Armstrong Green residents share their stories

October 6, 2023 BY

If you are looking for an active over 55 community, then the Armstrong Green Retirement Village could be just the place.

With an option to suit every lifestyle, you can enjoy modern retirement living on the eastern side of Armstrong Creek with all the comforts of home.

Here’s what some of Armstrong Green’s residents say they love about the community, built by RCA Villages.

Marg Fraumano, who originally lived in Belmont

“This kind of village is perfect for me; I feel like someone’s got your back all the time.

“Everyone is so friendly, it’s a really wonderful place to be.

“The villas are beautiful, you couldn’t wish for any more.

“I’ve got five boys, they’ve all been to have a look, and they can’t believe how beautiful the place is and how different I’ve been. I’m alive now and I wasn’t really before.”

Denise Crosby, who has downsized after living in Waurn Ponds, Moriac and Melbourne

“The main thing is I didn’t want to be responsible to my children – I wanted to be independent, and I didn’t want them to have to be looking after me.

“And they said ‘Great, it’s a great place; move!’

“So we picked out a place, and we’re here.”

Faye Parkinson, who came to Geelong from a property in Lancefield

“Two of my kids are down here, so that’s why we came down.

“We had an appointment for this retirement village and another one… we came down that day, we walked in here [to the Clubhouse] and we didn’t even go to the other one!”

Roma Sampson, who moved to Armstrong Green after four decades in Hurstbridge

“I’d actually signed elsewhere, but found this, and this was bigger and brand new, and the price was $110,000 cheaper than what I was playing for a smaller, older place.

“We were fourth to move in, so we’ve been here for more than three years.

“Everyone’s so friendly, and everything’s so close by.

“I was never going to go to a retirement village, but I absolutely love it.”

Liz and Tom Higgins, who sold their home in Mornington and then lived at RCA Villages’ Martha Bay Retirement Village

Tom: “Our youngest daughter and our youngest three grandchildren decided to sell up in Essendon and move to Torquay.

“So we moved closer, and we love it. It’s got everything here.

“I play bowls, I’m in the social club, I’m on the bar committee – it’s good, it keeps me going.

“And we’ve got the same design of house that we had at Martha Bay.”

Liz: “The closeness… we can’t get over being able to be in Geelong, which is like the city for us compared to what we used to have to do on the other side of the bay.

“There doesn’t seem to be waiting lists, and all the facilities – the doctor, the dentist, everything is there [at the Village Warralily Shopping Centre] so you can walk.

“Everyone’s really caring, I think, which is a real plus.

“We’ve had a few people, including myself, with hip and knee operations, and everybody really comes together; everyone’s always asking how you are.”

Seven of Armstrong Green’s stages have already been sold, with only three remaining.

Armstrong Green is at 722–742 Barwon Heads Road, Armstrong Creek.
