Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious collision on the Princes Freeway in Avalon yesterday morning.

Greater Geelong Highway Patrol officers said the incident took place at about 11.20am on Wednesday, June 19.

A white Toyota Camry and a white Haval wagon were both travelling south-west along the freeway near a roadworks site when the collision occurred.

Police said the Toyota struck the rear of the Haval as both vehicles merged, causing the Haval to flip over the median centre rail.

The 38-year-old male driver of the Toyota, from Maidstone, stopped at the scene and was spoken to by police.

His female passenger sustained minor injuries.

The two occupants of the Haval, a 72-year-old man and a 77-year-old woman from Grovedale, were both taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police confirmed the investigation is ongoing.

“Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dashcam vision to come forward to assist them with their enquiries,” Victoria Police said.
