FROM fine dining European restaurants to cruise ships, chef Andreas Gober has extensive global experience with food, and is headed for a major Geelong kitchen.

Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre has appointed him as executive chef, where he will bring his skills and passion to the new venue, expected to open in July 2026.

While his experience in award-winning restaurants in Europe is extensive, closer to home he has also cooked at Marvel Stadium and the W Melbourne Hotel, feeding thousands without compromising on quality.

The Austrian-born and now Mt Duneed local said there was so much happening in the region and a real sense of pride in what was possible.

“We can support local partners, cut down food miles, and serve things that are fresher because they’re right here. That’s a huge privilege.

“I’ve always dabbled in the kitchen – it runs in the family. My great-grandparents on my mother’s side ran the Stiftskeller in Admont, and both my grandmother and mother were exceptional cooks.”

Nyaal Banyul general manager Ricky Aylett celebrated Mr Gober’s appointment.

“Andreas and his team will deliver a world-class dining experience for our customers, while celebrating local producers and telling the stories of the Greater Geelong region,” he said.
