THE team behind Barwon Edge is gearing up to host a winter artisan market series and interested stallholders still have time to get involved.

The market series will begin on Saturday, July 20 and run through to October, falling monthly on the third Saturday of each month.

Director Matt Baird, who took over the site in September last year along with Jesse Hughes, Sarah Horsburgh and Amelia Baird, said the team was keen to connect with artisans that are passionate about their craft.

“There’s still a few days left, and we’d love to encourage anyone that would like to apply to apply by June 10.”

All stallholders, whether they specialise in handmade crafts, fresh produce, bespoke creations or art, are invited to submit an application.

“We just hope to get a whole lot of likeminded stalls and artisans on the site that can showcase their product,” Baird said.

“Hopefully it’s a worthwhile day for them, and obviously inviting hopefully a significant amount of people onto our property [will] give us some exposure on what we do as well.

“Our aim is to have something for everyone and if they feel inclined, they’re welcome to grab a coffee or have some lunch in our café or restaurant while they’re down there.

“We really envisioned [the market] just being a really lovely morning out for families and a really good way to get out of the house in winter.”

While currently only planned for the winter season, Baird confirmed that if the artisans market receives a strong community response, the venue will look at making it a monthly occurrence, all year.

The establishment of a market at the site follows that of an outdoor cinema earlier this year.

“We’re just taking it one step at the time but we’re really lucky that it is such a large, beautiful piece of land right on the Barwon River and we’ve got scope to do a lot of great things,” Baird said.

“We’re really excited to bring back the cinema again. [We’re] looking at Christmas time, looking at doing some Christmas movies for the cinema and we’ll get that back happening again over summer next year as well.”

Barwon Edge is at 40 Windsor Road, Newtown.
