A MULTI-PURPOSE baseball and football pavilion for Lara Recreation Reserve is a step closer with Geelong council considering tender proposals for the project.

The City of Greater Geelong has advertised a contract to design and build the new modular pavilion in recent weeks.

The city released the tender at the start of last month initially indicating it would close nominations on September 26, before extending the deadline to Monday this week (October 10).

A modular building between the reserve’s baseball field and oval neighbouring Lara Primary School was among the recommendations from the Lara Recreation Reserve Masteprlan that the city finalised in 2019.

The masterplan predicted the new building would cost the city about $2.3 million.

The new facility would provide shared infrastructure for the Lara Wildcats Baseball Club as well as football and cricket at the western oval.

Lara First Scouts could also use the new building as a base once constructed, while St John’s Ambulance facilities are confirmed to be moving into the modular base.

The city has budgeted a total of $4.58 million for the implementation of masterplan projects during this financial year.

A $2.75 million project for the reserve’s tennis and netball facilities – which includes a new pavilion, two courts for both sports and other infrastructure such as lighting – is also underway.
