Bells Beach Brewery opens new bar in heart of Geelong
WHEN the wind’s howling onshore but you’re still thirsty for some frothy action, Bells Beach Brewing has a new offering that is guaranteed to go down well.
Following the success of their first venue in Torquay, owners Adam Smith, Jono Moscrop and Jeff Crow opened a second venue called ‘The Brewery – Geelong’ off Little Malop Street in Geelong in February.
Of course, it’s not just surfers that are partial to carving the froth off a few.
Part-owner Jeff Crow says the new premises has proved hugely popular in Geelong and they had successfully recreated the vibe of the Surf Coast venue.
“Everyone loves the look and feel and environment we created in Torquay and we wanted to replicate that.”
The venture has already been incredibly successful which Mr Crow attributes in part to the design of the venue, the laid-back beer garden and the eclectic range of drinks on offer.
“The Brewery is a cool little building with lots of great character off Little Malop Street so we wanted to bring our beers to Geelong and see what we could do.”
Mr Crow said the most popular beers are the ones that aren’t standard and many patrons love how the drink list regularly changes.
“The beer list changes every week and this week we had some darker beers and stouts on offer for St Patrick’s Day.”
The beers on offer are all named after much-loved beaches and breaks in the region.
Mr Crow says his two favourite drinks are the Bird Rock Brown and the Hells Bells XPA.
“The Brown is sensational, it’s a light brown ale with coffee from Torquay-based Mikro Coffee Roasters,” he said.
“We brew up the coffee fresh and then pour it into the beer, so it’s got real coffee in it, and it is a super flavoursome beer.”
There is always something new around the corner and Mr Crow says to keep an eye out for some new sours including a fresh take on the ever-popular Rincon Raspberry Sour.
“We are also releasing an ESB, which is an ‘Extra Special Bitter,’ later this week,” he said.
The Brewery is located at 2/73b Little Malop Street, Geelong.
