A NEW fundraising event for Ford fanatics will hit the Geelong region next Sunday at South Barwon Reserve with all motoring enthusiasts encouraged to come along.

Hosted by the Falcon GT Club of Geelong, the inaugural Blue Oval Car Show will raise funds for children’s charity Camp Quality by inviting as many vintage Fords to the event as possible.

Member of the organising committee Steven Read said the formation of the event comes as a result of club members wanting to form the event next to the All Ford Day held last month.

“It basically came about because a lot of people of have historical Ford in Geelong, including the club, were not happy with the how the annual All Ford Day was being run,” Mr Read said.

“The commercialisation of it, the lack of donation to any charity with the proceeds was getting up their nose, so the guys at the Ford GT club here in Geelong put forward this idea and spoke to the other clubs.

“It got enough support to make it worthwhile, so now we’re going to run it.”

Mr Read said Camp Quality is a charity the club has supported for many years.

Currently eight club members are already participating in this year’s esCarpade initiative, a seven-day Camp Quality driving fundraiser from Canberra to Geelong in October this year.

“The City of Greater Geelong has been extremely helpful with getting this event across the line in a short amount of time, it’s been a bit of a learning curve for us getting this event up to code,” Mr Read said.

“It should be noted the event will be very weather dependant, but we anticipate a great family event.

“It’s definitely going to be exciting and we’d love to see a large turnout, the collection of Ford vehicles on display will also be something to marvel at and we’ll have the Camp Quality representatives there on the day as well.”

Gates on the day will open at 9am with all vehicles parked by 10am. Entry per car is $10 and spectator entry is a gold coin donation.
