THE Fyans Street level crossing removal project is nearing completion, with the new 2000-tonne rail bridge moved into place.

The new rail bridge will simplify the five-way intersection and improve traffic flow and safety.

With the bridge now in place, embankment works are progressing before the new duplicated track is installed. The embankment construction will include the installation of 1300 concrete panels containing artworks from Wadawurrung Traditional Owner and artist Kait James.

During this time, works will also progress to realign Fyans Street under the rail bridge to create a consistent stretch of road through to the Breakwater Road roundabout.

The Fyans Street intersection will remain closed until August 26.

Passengers are reminded that coaches remain in place for all trains between Geelong and Warrnambool until August 25.
