Carmel Thomas appointed SAFV interim CEO
GEELONG’S Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre (SAFV) has appointed a new interim chief executive officer with Carmel Thomas to begin transitioning into her new role.
The SAFV board’s announcement on August 5 follows the resignation of outgoing CEO Helen Bolton, who will become the new CEO of Respect Victoria.
Ms Thomas will start transitioning into the CEO role over the next fortnight, formerly serving as executive manager of merger implementation-client services
“Carmel has been with The SAFV Centre for more than eight years and a key member of the Executive Leadership Team since 2021 as Executive Manager Client Services,” SAFV’s board stated.
“She brings a wealth of leadership with more than 25 years’ experience working in the community sector across a broad range of practice working with sexual and family violence and trauma.
“Carmel has a passion for addressing violence against women and children, and ensuring the clients who seek our support are provided with the best service possible.
“We are delighted that Carmel has been appointed to this role. As a respected, committed and admired leader, Carmel will provide wonderful leadership and stability while maintaining our momentum during this transitional phase.”
The SAFV Board will undergo a “rigorous” recruitment process to decide its new CEO.
“The SAFV Centre Board have commenced the recruitment process for the CEO role and the position will be advertised over the coming weeks,” the board stated.
“The SAFV Centre is a strong and sustainable organisation, and we look forward to welcoming a new CEO in the coming months.”
