Cheeseman appointed to new role

August 1, 2023 BY

SOUTH Barwon MP Darren Cheeseman has kept his parliamentary secretary role but has been shifted to a new portfolio.

As of yesterday (Monday, July 31), Mr Cheeseman was still the Parliamentary Secretary for the Commonwealth Games, despite the Victorian government abandoning its plans last month to host Victoria 2026.

Earlier today, Premier Daniel Andrews released a statement announcing “several changes to parliamentary secretary responsibilities”, including that Mr Cheeseman would become Parliamentary Secretary for Community Sport.

“He will support Minister Spence with the Government’s extensive work with community sporting codes and clubs as well as the recently announced All Abilities Sport Fund, ensuring this significant new investment is designed and delivered to benefit people with disability and facilitate their participation in sport of all kinds,” Mr Andrews stated.

Mr Cheeseman was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for the Commonwealth Games in late June 2022 and reported to Deputy Premier Jacinta Allan in her role as the minister for Commonwealth Games delivery, which was abolished after the Victorian government cancelled its hosting of the Games.

Today’s other two appointments are Nina Taylor as Parliamentary Secretary for Justice, and Iwan Walters as Parliamentary Secretary for Disability and Carers.
