Children’s Week program to begin soon
A SWATHE of events will be rolled out across the Geelong region from tomorrow (Saturday, October 19) onwards as part of Children’s Week in 2024.
The annual national celebration, which this year will be held between tomorrow and October 27, recognises the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children.
Across the Geelong region, several organisations will be running events and activities for children and their families.
These are a great opportunity to connect with local services in a fun and engaging way.
One of the highlights will be Kids Funfest, to be held at St Albans Reserve on Tuesday, October 22 from 9.30am to 12 noon.
The City of Greater Geelong is presenting the event, perfect for preschoolers, as part of its support for Children’s Week.
The lineup includes:
- Bush Adventures with Granny Lee Uke
- Creative Upcycling with Urban Upcycle
- Water Safety Fun with Lachie the Lifeguard, giant inflatable ducks, and engaging sensory activities
- Insights on Flood Awareness with the SES Road Safety Activities
- Storytime, resources and Car Seat Support with TAC Road Safety Program
- Baby Bunting and Community Police Body
- Safety education with Harold and the Life Ed Van, and
- Nature activities from Meli, playgroups and National Wool Museum Storytimes.
Bring a picnic, and a bag to take your treasures home in. Plenty of parking will be available; enter via Boundary Road.
Other events on during Children’s Week include Wildflower Kids pop-up bush playgroup in Ocean Grove, Happy Healthy Kids Day at ourplace in Corio, and the Musical Garden interactive children’s show in Manifold Heights.
This year’s theme, taken from Article 24 of the United Nations Convention on the rights of the child, is “Children have the right to a clean and safe environment”.
