Christmas Tree Festival to spotlight local organisations
CHRISTMAS trees will fill the hall of St Pauls Anglican Church, decorated by organisations around Geelong this holiday season.
Returning for its third year, the Christmas Tree Festival welcomes 18 trees to the 2024 event, an increase from the 10 on display last year, running from Friday, November 29 to November 30.
Church treasurer Ruth Oakley said it was an opportunity for the organisations to share some of the work they’re doing.
“What we’re trying to do is share with Geelong some of the good things that are happening in the town from local volunteers and charities and share some of the goodwill over the Christmas period.
“I hope the community will understand some of the good things that really are happening in Geelong, particularly in these times.
“People are finding it tough, it’s really good to be able to see that there are organisations out there which are doing good.”
Organisations including refugee associations, Story Dogs, the Geelong Highland Pipe Band, Rotary and more will be involved in this year’s event.
Geelong organisation Story Dogs were one of the original exhibitors when the festival started three years ago and will be returning with their tree decorated in orange again this year.
Story Dogs coordinator Karen Knuckey said they enjoy being part of the event each year and sharing what they do.
“We love to participate in this project because it’s really about sharing the joy of what we do in the community and spreading the word at Christmas time and really getting involved in the spirit of things.”
The festival is open from 6pm until 9pm on November 29, with a performance from the North Children’s Choir beginning from 7pm.
On Saturday, doors will be open from 10am until 3pm with children’s activities taking place throughout the day, along with Christmas stalls.
Entry into the festival is free for children and by gold coin donation for adults.
