GEELONG council is seeking public input into a plan to liven up the city centre.

The City of Greater Geelong has a $700,000 kitty to deliver a program of activities and a three-year marketing strategy for central Geelong following a councillor vote in April ahead of the 2022-23 budget.

The marketing framework aims to boost participation, visitation and vibrancy in central Geelong for years to come.

Geelong mayor Peter Murrihy said the city wants to collaborate with the community, businesses and stakeholders to deliver the marketing and activation plan.

“Working together with CBD businesses to design and deliver activations ensures support from the business community and shared investment in the outcome.

“We want to enhance everything that’s great about Central Geelong – from the beautiful waterfront to our food and dining culture – for shoppers, traders and all Greater Geelong residents.”

“Central Geelong is the engine room of our economy, supporting more than 27,000 jobs, and embodying Geelong’s identity and civic pride.”

Economic development deputy chair Cr Bruce Harwood said the plan aimed to promote Geelong as a unique and vibrant city to drive visitation and spending for local businesses.

The city wants to hear from businesses and residents about how it can attract more people to central Geelong through its online survey and engagement sessions across Geelong this month.

Consultation closes on October 28.
