THE City of Greater Geelong is seeking community input for a long-term plan for the Geelong Waterfront.

The city will soon prepare an update to its 2011 Geelong Waterfront Masterplan that would incorporate connections to recently completed projects such as the Wurriki Nyal Civic Precinct and those soon to be completed, such as the Geelong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The 10 to 20-year plan would guide funding advocacy and strategies to enhance and manage the precinct spanning from Rippleside Park to beyond Limeburners Point.

Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said the city and the council wanted to hear from residents who lived, worked and visited the area about what they value most.

“Our glittering north-facing Geelong Waterfront is an incredibly special place that we are lucky to have for recreation, hospitality, retail, water sports and events.

“We want to hear from a broad range of users – whether you exercise along the bay daily, visit a few times a year, attend events there, work at a Waterfront business and everything in between.”

“Ask yourself: how do I use the site, do I face any challenges and how can the space be more engaging and accessible into the future?”

Deputy mayor Anthony Aitken said the precinct was one of the city’s most important community and tourism destinations.

“We have a duty to improve and enhance this exceptional area that contributes to a strong community, environment and economy.”

Consultation is open until May 31.
