City’s call to spend locally this Christmas
THE City of Greater Geelong is urging Christmas shoppers to buy locally as part of a callout to support local businesses during the festive season.
Mayor Trent Sullivan said shopping locally helps foster a better sense of community, while encouraging shoppers to discover gifts which reflect the character of the region this Christmas.
“Local shop owners take pride in their products and services, providing a personalised and friendly shopping experience,” Mayor Sullivan said.
“This sense of community is especially important during the holiday season, bringing people together in the spirit of celebration and shared values.
“As we gear up for Christmas, let’s rally behind our local businesses and give a boost to our economy.”
The City outlined several positives to shopping locally, such as economic benefit to the region, reducing long-distance transportation, and minimising the chance of shipping and postal delays.
Deputy Mayor Anthony Aitken said local businesses are what shapes the character of local towns and retail precincts.
“Shopping locally helps preserve the individuality and charm that make our community special,” Cr Aitken said.
“In the holiday hustle, it’s easy to overlook the impact of our shopping choices.
“However, by choosing to shop locally at Christmas, we can make a meaningful difference in our communities.”
