Community spirit shines through with op shop opening

THE Lions Club of Corio Norlane Opportunity Shop has reopened in style thanks to the generosity of volunteers and contractors within the community.

Following extensive repairs and improvements required to fix serious internal storm water damage, contractors and volunteers used the funds supplied from building insurers to replace a bulging dangerous roofing system and damaged stock and carpet.

A new grid commercial ceiling was revealed at the opening on Tuesday, among other improvements, which providing the the Lions Club with a safe and insulated space for years to come.

“Within the budget provided by insurers the deficient faulty roof section was replaced to an excellent standard,” Lions Club member and project assistant Robert Eyton said.

“All of the repairs have remarkably been done within the funds paid by the insurance company with a huge volunteer effort paying massive dividends for the overall build.”

“We literally had donations of products to assist with the project coming from everywhere, making it a lot easier to stay under our budget.

“People were remarkable with volunteering their time during the build and the contractors we used for the project were so diligent with their service, doing it for such as affordable price.”

With the funds raised, the Lions Club were also able to afford carpet tile flooring, new LED lighting, fans, and a new upgraded electricity supply board with all the plug socket outlets.

Eyton said that it was so great to see all the work on this project go to good use, therefore providing the dedicated volunteer staff, who for 5 days a week, a pleasant place to work.

“These people provide a kind word, a friendly face and a chance to buy a bargain for the community,” Eyton said.

“They deserve a fine place to work in and some recognition of their remarkable dedication, so it’s really pleasing to give them this space again.

“The Lions Club of Corio Norlane are known in their locality as an active member of the community, working directly and indirectly with aid agencies such as Bethany and the Salvation Army.

The group also provide support for disadvantaged, homeless, and truly needy people in the region.

The Lions Club of Corio Norlane Opportunity Shop is open five days a week from 10-3pm at 55 Alkira Avenue, Norlane, 3214.
